A Decade of Coffee, Community, and a Few Fun Facts

As Wired Coffee Bar celebrates its first decade in business, we have been reflecting on the journey, the people, and the countless cups of coffee that made it all possible. What started as a dream has grown into a community hub, a workplace for hundreds of young people, and a space where life truly happens. Here are a few Wired facts and stats from our first decade.

It All Started With One Mom and a Big Idea

Wired Coffee Bar was founded by a single mom who also happens to be a university professor. From the beginning, Wired was built on purpose. It was never just about coffee. It was about creating a welcoming space for connection, conversation, and opportunity, all while balancing motherhood, teaching, and entrepreneurship.

Over 200 Students and First Jobs

Over the past decade, Wired has employed more than 200 high school and college students. For nearly 40% of them, Wired was their very first job. We are incredibly proud to have been a place where young people learned responsibility, teamwork, customer service, and confidence. Many of our former baristas have gone on to successful careers, and they still stop by to say hello. That is one of the greatest rewards of owning a small business.

A Lot of Coffee (and We Mean a Lot)

On average, Wired goes through more than 250 pounds of coffee beans every single month. That is a lot of brewing, pouring, and sharing moments over coffee. Every cup represents a conversation, a study session, a meeting, or a pause in a busy day.

A True Family Business

Both of the owner’s kids quite literally grew up at Wired. From doing homework in the corner to eventually working behind the bar, Wired has always been part of their story. Watching them grow alongside the business has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey.

Third Time’s the Charm

Like Goldilocks, the third location turned out to be just right. We absolutely love our home at Oakies Plaza. With easy access, plenty of parking, and a welcoming atmosphere, it feels like the perfect fit for Wired and for our community.

Love Stories Behind the Bar

One of our favorite Wired fun facts is that at least five barista couples married while working at Wired. Coffee has a way of bringing people together, and sometimes that connection lasts a lifetime. From shared shifts to shared lives, these relationships are a beautiful reminder that Wired is more than a workplace.

Roasting the Wired Way: Bellwether Technology

Our Bellwether Roaster is a huge part of what makes Wired special.

We use smart roasting technology with digitally controlled recipes, allowing us to replicate exact roast profiles batch after batch. This means consistent flavor and quality in every cup.

The roaster is all electric and ventless, producing zero direct emissions during roasting. No smoke. No greenhouse gases. It aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment.

Because we roast in-house, we can roast on demand. That means fresher beans for our customers and the flexibility to experiment with new origins, seasonal blends, and exclusive Wired roasts without minimum order restrictions.

Our beans are also traceable. Customers can scan a code and see exactly where their coffee came from, down to the farm level. It is transparency you can taste and trust.

Looking Ahead

After over a decade, one thing remains clear. Wired Coffee Bar has always been about people first. Coffee brings us together, but community keeps us here. Whether you have been with us since the early days or just discovered Wired, thank you for being part of our story.

Here’s to the next decade of great coffee, meaningful connections, and plenty more stories brewed right here at Wired.
